Banking Instruments

Banking instruments like SBLC, LC at Sight, Usance LC, DLC, and BG are essential financial tools used in international trade to guarantee payments, secure transactions, and manage risk between global partners.

Standby Letter of Credit (SBLC)

Acts as a payment guarantee if the buyer fails to fulfill obligations. Functions as a "safety net" for long-term contracts and construction projects.

Letter of Credit at Sight (LC at Sight)

Payment is made immediately upon presentation of required documents. Ideal for fast-moving trade transactions to reduce seller risk.

Usance Letter of Credit

Provides a deferred payment period (e.g., 30-90 days post-shipment), helping buyers manage cash flow while providing payment assurance to sellers.

Documentary Letter of Credit (DLC)

Payment is triggered upon strict compliance with documentary requirements. Widely used to balance trust in international trade.

Bank Guarantee (BG)

A bank's promise to cover losses if a party defaults. Common in infrastructure, construction, and large-scale industrial contracts.

Comparative Overview

Instrument Purpose Payment Timing Risk Coverage
SBLCBackup guaranteeOnly if buyer defaultsHigh security
LC at SightImmediate paymentOn presentationLow seller risk

MONETIZATION OF SBLC & BG

Monetization of SBLC (Standby Letter of Credit) and BG (Bank Guarantee) refers to the process of transforming these financial instruments into cash or a credit line while preserving the original guarantee. This allows holders to obtain liquidity without the need to liquidate assets or incur traditional debt.

An SBLC represents a bank's assurance to compensate a beneficiary if the applicant defaults on an obligation, and it is frequently utilized in international trade and significant projects. Conversely, a BG signifies a bank's commitment to pay if the client fails to fulfill contractual obligations, and it is commonly employed in construction, trade, and project financing.
